Build your team

The steering committee provides direction for your campaign and is the way volunteers and supporters can take leadership. The make-up of the steering committee should reflect the diversity of your community.

Reach out to retailers

Identifying opportunities for consumers to make a difference with their purchases is a crucial part of Fair Trade Towns. Based on population size, each campaign must have a certain number of retail locations selling at least two Fair Trade products.

Engage your Town

Seeing a commitment from community organizations like schools, places of worship and even offices to Fair Trade helps make an impact in the community. Each town must have a certain number of these groups using or serving Fair Trade products.

Get some love from the media

Gaining recognition in the media is one of the most tangible ways to raise awareness and support for your work. It also allows you to broadcast how local action can deliver life changing benefits to farmers, artisans, producers and their communities to a large audience.

Engage your local government

Engaging local government on Fair Trade is an important way to show the support of the broader community. By enlisting members of your local government through passage of a procurement policy, resolution or other recognition of your work, more and more people will learn about the importance of their purchases.
